First impressions

Greetings from the Lion city! I have been here for a week now and there's a lot to get used to. The weather for one thing, my new haircut for another - oh, and the new job, of course!

I am brand new to blogging, and also managed to leave my camera behind in London, so you will have to wait till Chris gets here for any personal pix. Meantime - here is where I'm staying just now, for another week or so before we move to the permanent apartment. I have just rerurned from a dip before settling down to write this - now feeling nice and mellow.

A quick best and worst of Singapore so far:
BEST: The head massage at Essensuals hair salon (a funky offshoot of Toni and Guy). First of all, they wash your hair lying down (you, not them) - so much more comfy than the hard edge basin beloved by crimpers elsewhere, then the massage itself was amazing!!!!! It lasted for 10 minutes, and was like being massaged by fingers of steel in gloves of the softest velvet........... Apparently I have to wait 8 weeks for my hair to grow before the next appointment, but I may not last!

WORST: The bureaucracy. You even have to give your passport number when booking a ticket for the opera. (I wonder why? Perhaps it's so they can track you down in case you decide to flee the country instead of actually attending the performance?????).  I did, in fact, go to the opera last night to see Hey, Figaro! (the Barber of Seville with a modernist treatment) and the guy who sang Figaro was fantastic. So much so that I feel compelled to share his website with you - yungbaeyang.com. I just open it up to look at the photo, although he is even more gorgeous in the flesh - and what a voice! He would definitely have reeived a standing ovation in London, but they don't seem to do that here. Perhaps I'll find out why when we do the cultural orientation. More of that in the next edition.

Sounds like a wonderful life. When I visit I must have the head massage! Sounds delightful. So nice to chat with you the other day. Thanks for the tips. Hope to see photos on your blog soon! Hugs, Susan
