Let them eat cake

A few weeks ago I was in Hong Kong for a couple of days, staying at the Mandarin Oriental - one of my favourite hotels in Asia - and found myself wandering past the cake shop.  As well as the normal fare, there were a number of demonstrations of the patissier's art exhibited in glass cases - like the one on the left.  Yes folks, that really is cake, the whole thing - the clown, the dogs, the ball.  I've never seen anything quite like it and I wanted to share it with you.  If one were to write a haiku about it, it would probably go something like this:

Would the peasants have
rebelled if they got to eat
this cake? Perhaps not.

astounding, (the haiku obviously) mind you the cake is quite impressive.. and no problem finding someone to carve it, everybody hates clowns ...
